Materials: Clean juice carton Candle wax Melting pot Candle thermometer Wick or taper candle Wax coloring and scent Ice - Make sure the juice carton is thoroughly washed out before you start.
- Trim the carton to the desired height (figure A).
- Break up a block of wax and begin melting it in an appropriate container placed in a pot with boiling water. To ensure that the wax doesn't become too hot and ignite, monitor the temperature with the thermometer, keeping the wax between 170-180 degrees.
- If you want to color the candle, do it now.
- Shave or break up bits of the wax coloring. It melts easier this way. Then stir.
- When the wax is ready to pour, add your favorite scent the same way.
Time-saving Tip: A quick way to wick the candle is to use a thin tapered candle of the same color as the wick. Using a potholder, pour a little of the melted wax in the bottom of the container (about 1/2") and set the candle in the center (figure B). This will form a solid base. - While that's hardening, crush some ice in a bag. The smaller the pieces of ice, the more intricate the candle will look.
- Then pour the ice in the container to the top.
- Now pour the hot wax over the ice (figure C), which will melt a little and then the wax will start to set. Let it stand overnight to completely harden.
- In the morning, pour out the water and set the carton on a plate to catch any extra water or moisture.
- Carefully tear away the carton to reveal your delicately sculpted ice candle.
This one-of-a-kind creation will look beautiful in any room in your home!
